Billy Bean
Billy is a co-founder of KBMP serving as a consultant to teams and Director of Research, playing a pivotal role in analyzing athlete assessment and practice data. Billy prioritizes promoting athlete autonomy in his work, empowering individuals to play an active role in increasing understanding of themselves and their responses to stress and anxiety impacting performance and enjoyment of sport. He enjoys helping athletes understand that challenging thoughts and emotions are human, not a problem to be fixed, and that together they can create new, adaptable ways of interacting with stress, challenges, and fear.
Billy brings a breadth of experience to his work having provided sport psychology services to athletes competing in both individual and team sports in the NCAA including golf, tennis, T&F, cross country, basketball, and baseball.
Professional Journey & Credentials
Billy earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Kinesiology at SUNY Brockport before going on to earn a master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Georgia Southern University. During his two years there, he engaged in rigorous sport psychology training, providing individual and group services to numerous Division I teams and conducting research examining the impact of visualization on reaction time among student-athletes.
Billy went on to complete a doctoral degree in Sport Psychology at Florida State University, during which he also completed a second master’s degree in Measurement & Statistics and a certificate in College Teaching. At Florida State, he worked with various Division I teams and pursued research in the areas of biofeedback, teleconsultation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Billy is currently an Assistant Professor at DeSales University, where he teaches courses in the areas of sport psychology, cognitive psychology, and research methods. He conducts and supervises research in the areas of technology use in sport psychology and the scholarship of teaching and learning in sport psychology.
